Brighton Housing Benefit Protest

Nice to see coverage in the Argus, but they got their facts wrong.  BBC does not claim that ‘loss of benefits for the long-term unemployed and people in council houses will affect up to 12,500 households in Brighton and Hove’.

Firstly,  contrary to the government’s propaganda, the majority of those in receipt of housing benefit are not unemployed – in fact 80% are in work and have to rely on housing benefit to make up for low wages.

Secondly, the cuts to Local Housing Allowances will hit those renting privately. This is what has been estimated will affect 12500 households in Brighton.
